I have used various languages in my work. They include Castilian (Official Standard Spanish), Arabic, Ladino (Sephardic Jewish) and Calo (Spanish Gipsy). I considered using some Latin - which would have been relevant - but in the end I decided I had sufficient words for my needs; I didn’t want to force the inclusion of Latin just to be “academically” correct. There are sections of my work where languages are combined, sometimes simultaneously, sometimes within the same phrase, and sometimes in entirely corrupted forms. There are also words without any obvious literal meaning which I have extracted from “proper” words and used as purely musical sounds.

The text is taken from various sources and uses the following languages:

I have also used nonsensical words - some of which are traditionally used in actual flamenco songs - and single syllabic sounds with no literal meaning.

I don’t attempt to create a conventional narrative but instead use words as rhythmic units, abstract sounds, and symbols. when I first became interested in Flamenco I had no idea what was being sung about. I don’t have much more idea now but the force and passion of the singing, expresses so much more than any words ever could.
If there appears to be a bit of a mystery surrounding the text it is to some extent deliberate: it is the mystery of music, the mystery of language, the mystery of life. I like the idea of certain thoughts and feelings being expressed in a way that does not simply explain them but enlarges them - I think music can do this best and I prefer the words to be treated as musical elements.
